Swelling

The symptoms of gingivitis manifest in the gum tissue as the classic signs of inflammation: 

1. Swollen Gums
2. Bright red or purple gums
3. Gums that are tender or painful to the touch

It is recommended that a dental surgeon be seen to check for the symptoms of gingivitis. A dental surgeon will also look out for signs of periodontitis using x-rays as well as other clinical methods.
